All in all, I'm happy to say that Orycon 18 was a successful convention, thanks to the hard work and participation of many, many people -- 1,626 members. For the first time, Orycon reached its registration limit, an event we hadn't really expected last year, and we had to stop accepting at the door memberships on Saturday. While we really hated to turn anyone away, there is a finite number that will fit safely in our present facility, the Red Lion Columbia River. And, despite the record attendance, there are still some Orycon 18 t-shirts left, featuring the lovely artwork of Patricia Davis. See page 8 for the list of sizes & colors.
Many, many thanks to all the members of OryCon 18 who made it a good con.
-- Ruth Sachter, last year's chair
Art Show
by Lacey Axmaker
The Art Show was enjoyable and successful -- we had a good representation of styles and media from artists in and out of the Northwest. Multimedia art of all types -- stained-glass, quilting, silk painting and stonework -- added depth to the show. Our Artist Guest of Honor, Patti Davis, provided not only her latest Original Paintings on continuous display, but also had many of her favorite prints on display.
As in the last several years there was an enthusiastic response to our reservation mailing: selling out the space by mid-October and establishing a waiting list. We did have more room this year, because of remodeling, but we are still limited by the maximum capacity of our function space.
This year we had more 3D artwork displayed with 146 panels and 20 tables sold. The show had a total, displayed and "printshop", of 1304 pieces from 84 artists. A total of 379 pieces were sold for a total of $7,444 including 38 pieces that went to auction.
Our most significant improvement this year was the room layout, mostly due to the aforementioned remodeling. There was more space for print shop and the control tables.
If you want to be on the artist mailing list, please send your address to Art Show, OryCon 19, PO Box 5703, Portland OR 97228-5703. And remember next year's Artist Guest of Honor is Frank Lurz.

As some of you may have heard, the Red Lion chain was sold late last year to the Doubletree Hotels chain. If this has any effect on the upcoming convention, we will update our members through the Progress Reports and on the web page for OryCon 19: http://www.orycon.org/orycon19. Currently, nothing has changed, including the name of the hotel(s).
Room rates for OryCon 19 are $83.00 per night, for up to four guests. If you request a river view, the hotel charges ten dollars additional per night. Rollaways are fifteen dollars per night.
The following hotel policies are in effect this year:
Variety Show
by Ann Hoffert, Tracy Bailey, Vicki Harrison, Janet Borkowski, and
Barbara Hoffert
As the designated Variety Show producer (and regress report writer), I want to thank everyone who made the Variety Show such a success. To all of you volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes, to those who have supported the idea of a Variety Show over the past two years, to the participants and the MC (William Sadorus) who gave the audience their all, you have my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation. Although we never promised to bring the audience talent, that is certainly what we got in abundance. You performance artists were fabulous! A special thanks to the amazingly talented and versatile Tech Crew -- the show would have been dark and silent without you! Finally, I want to especially thank those incredibly dedicated people who have been a part of this endeavor for two years running (I guess we're all just gluttons for punishment)! Tracy Bailey, Janet Borkowski, Vicki Harrison and Barbara Hoffert -- This never could have happened without your dedication, imagination and organization. By the way, there will be a traditional Masquerade for OryCon 19, so if you're interested in competing in it (or running it!), start thinking about those costumes now!
-- Ann Hoffert
Treasure Hunt
Congratulations to Tech(nicolor), the winner of OryCon 18's
Treasure Hunt. He is now the proud owner and soon to be possessor of an
OryCon 19 membership, a "Derf" from Hippogryff Armory, and an OryCon 18
T-Shirt proclaiming him "Master of the Hunt, OryCon 18".
The Treasure Hunt Committee (me!) would like to thank "Ghost" for volunteering to be the "treasure" this year.
Also, thank you to everyone who participated in the Hunt. I hope you all enjoyed the chase and I look forward to leading you on another merry one at OryCon 19.
-- Debra Stansbury (Treasure Hunt Committee)
Hospitality
This convention was a bit larger than I had originally
conceptualized before being there, and I could not have pulled it off
without all of my wonderful volunteers -- not to mention my
assistants Randy and Tris, who were godsends.
If you just can't tear yourself away during the con, I will need people who want to cook/bake before con. This is a great way to help out without missing any of the amazing con activities. That's all for now, have a great year and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again.
